Notes on James [1830] and Rose A. Keenan Shevlin Family

Per Margaret Shevlin Adams, James was the son of Charles and Bridget Shevlin.

While not documentation has been found to prove this assertion, it is not inconsistent with facts that are known.  Both James and Charles were shoemakers.  Charles had five sons in the 1840 census.  The one listed as age 10-15 could be James.   Also, James named his first son Charles.

Tombstone in St. Mary's of the Mountain Cemeter in Hunter has the following names, the first two in front and the other four in back:

James W. Shevlin  1830-1886
Rose A. Keenan 1833-1910, his wife
Josephine age 12 years
Sarah age 5 years
Charles M. age 7 years
Grace age 7 years

Note that "Josephine" above may be the Joseph listed in the 1875 census.

A small stone on the ground near the church indicates the following:

Charles M., died March 4, 1868, age 8

Grace, died July 13, 1881, age 7

Sarah died November 14 [11?] 1860, age 5
